Garden moments

Azaleas resist being photographed individually. They are meant to be enjoyed in big showy, frilly masses.

This iris on the other hand stands alone and proud.

The lilacs are on their way out, which is sad. They will take their wonderful scent with them.

The chive flowers, on the other hand, are about to emerge from their papery wrappers. They bring with them their own tasty smell.

These are called bleeding hearts, but that name always seemed a bit off to me. They remind me more of a uterus, and before anyone gets offended by that, orchids are named for testicles, due to the shape of their bud before it opens.

The fruit of the plant even forms inside the flower and then the flower drops away.

Every spring we wonder if this plant is dying as it’s leaves turn yellow and droop. Then the plant sends forth little shoots and these flowers appear.

The spirit of this plant was strong. A woman with wild hair and staring eyes.

If you had asked me yesterday, I would have said that blueberry plants have green leaves and little white flowers. But today I looked, really looked, and there are all these little pink leaves too.

Lilly of the valley is my birth flower. I had forgotten how wonderful they smell until I was weeding around them today.
